The World Health Organization has ranked Israel 21 out of 22 European countries in terms of the ratio of abortions to births. Russia was ranked first, with 1,022.4 abortions per 1,000 births, and second is Romania, with 684.6 abortions.
I have very mixed feelings on abortion, and am quite happy to live in a country where abortion is not legally regulated by the state per say, but a staggering 1,022.4 abortions for every 1,000 live births is mind bendingly sick.

Here is how it works:
1. There are more women than men in Russia. Largely because men drink themselves to death and even if they do survive the majority are not up to very much.
2. Any half-decent man -old or young; clever or stupid - is automatically popular as long as he can walk by himself.
Women compete for sexually active men rather than the other way around.
3. Women sleep around whenever they get a chance. Russian men don't like condoms and competing women don't feel like they are in a position to impose any specific requirements. Unwanted pregnancies are a fact of life.
4. Abortion is used as just another means of contraception. Nobody as much as raised an eyebrow.
The best way of fighting abortions in Russia would be importation of Chinese men into the country. China has too many males.
This goes a long way explaining Russian women's obessession with Putin....but I am not so sure Chinese men are the solution. Having been at the receiving end of 'otherness' among 'some' Russians, I am having a hard time seeing it as a viable solution.
Yeah, Russians don't like Chinese. Same goes for anyone else who looks different. Having said it, somehow Russian women seem to be way more tolerant than men...
Perhaps xenophobia is just another form of competition for mates and serves as a means for Russian men to spread their seed.
