As the left worm terms or just another Stop the War Rally

My son and I decided we had been cooped up in the house too long and decided to go for a walk around the neighborhood and see what the haps were for the locals. By chance we stumbled across an anti-war rally.

Unbeknownst to us, Dundas Square was a designated one stop “End the War in Afghanistan-Canada out of NATO- Cut military spending” Day of Action Rally.

All the usual aging hippies suspects were out in full force (well, maybe 200-300), and here and there were sprinkled in for good measure a few young malcontents - some overfed and some just as obviously not feed enough.

The speeches were a cross between the known slogans of the ‘peace pacifists’ – 'End the Occupation', 'End Israeli Apartheid', 'Get the troops out - Now!', but there were still a few surprises, such as ‘End the Harper-Obama-Agenda’. My ears perked up at that one. I mean, and why not? It’s not often one hears the suggestion a Canadian Prime minister gets first billing on an alleged ‘neo-con’ agenda! Frankly, the idea of Obama is now a neo-con was just too novel for words.



It was remarkably dull and staid affair when all is said and done. The Commies and the Socialists fractions had their moment in the cold grey light of day but if I were to offer one suggestion for the rally organizers it would be this - the next time one tries to hold a rally to rally Canadians to end anything - it would help if the Canadian rather than Palestinian flags were flown prominently.
