Anon - your spelling is relatively reasonable but you really do need to work on your grammar. Especially, if you are going to continue to indulge your misogynistic name calling tendencies on my blog. I prefer the use of "haughty" rather than "supercilious" as the strong "H" sound of 'Haughty' beats the Mary Poppins "SSS" sounds of "supercilious" any day.

Blazing Cat Fur – Welcome back. I really don’t know if your Anon is my Anon. I have had him as a visitor for some time now and for some odd reason he always makes his appearance on a Friday.
As for the Black school debate I have already done two posts on it, and in general, most of the outright bigotry from the opponents of the proposal I find incredibly appalling but to summarize here is my position.
1) The situation is dire and the solution requires a little thinking outside the box.
2) You cannot maintain 58 different kinds of specialty schools including a secondary school for gays and lesbians and then tell the Black community you can’t have one. It reeks of racism and trust me, the opposition has been duly noted.
3) The black community has been lambasted for a lack of initiative for solutions to the problems within their community. And when a group of concerned black parents and educators come together with a potential solution to address the educational deficit within their community they get slapped in the face for attempting to offer a solution. Believe it or not, Black parents pay property taxes too.
4) For those teens who do come from dysfunctional families – it offers two outside benefits –the chance to have accessible and positive role models for themselves within the classroom – I am thinking within the curriculum or the teacher. The Last Amazon is half-way through grade 12 – in her career she has had only three black educators. Two were supply teachers, and one was at her private prep school who taught English and Gym. In fact, I removed her from the elementary public school in junior kindergarten due to the innate racism of her teacher in Toronto who was failing her. At 4, the Last Amazon could write her first and last name, not only knew her alphabet but could write each of the letters, she had a sight vocabulary of approximately 50 words and could count to 100, she recognized numbers from 1-20 but she was “failing to develop”. Go figure. Her overall average last term was 93% in grade 12 with a 96% in English and 97% in physics. Imagine where she would be today if I left her in public elementary school in Toronto.
5) There already is a successful model of a black school teaching a curriculum based on a blackcentric education in Brampton. They have a rather remarkable success rate with some very tough students. And for those who believe a blackcentric education would center on cannibalism or witchdoctory 101 I would suggest wearing your ignorance on your sleeve it not a badge of honour nor does not mean the rest of wallow in the ignorance.
6) Attendance based on skin colour would not be mandatory and the school would be open to all. And for people who believe it would signal a return to the days of segregation I suggest you take a walk through any high school cafeteria in Toronto. The students already self-segregate.
7) And as a conservative, if you needed another reason to support such a school, here’s one. The Toronto Star editorial board is dead set against it.
