House speaker Nabih Berri announced yesterday that the government of Lebanon "is willing to cooperate with a UN investigating team, within procedures and terms that will preserve Lebanon's sovereignty and internal jurisdiction" which is in direct contradiction to a statement issued Saturday by Lebanese Defense Minister Abdel-Rahim Mrad wherein he reiterated that the Lebanese government would not accept the proposed investigation demanded by opposition leader Jimblatt.
The UN team will be lead by Irish police officer Deputy Commissioner Peter Fitzgerald and it expected to arrive in Beirut before the weekend.
