We are not immune

I first read about a homemade bomb exploding at a Jewish community centre in Montreal in Ynet News. But I did find the Globe and Mail account:
Police are investigating after a small, homemade explosive device detonated late Tuesday night outside a Jewish community centre in Montreal. They say it's too soon to describe the explosion, which left soot on the door and doorstep, as a hate-motivated crime. No one was hurt.

A Montreal police spokeswoman said employees inside the Ben Weider Jewish Community Centre heard an explosion at about 11:15 p.m. No witnesses have come forward, but the centre did have surveillance cameras, and tapes are being reviewed by police. The centre had not received any threats before.

"We're not ruling out [a hate crime]," said Constable Lynne Labelle of the Montreal police. "But we're waiting to get as much information as possible."
The centre was closed yesterday for the Jewish holiday of Passover, which began at sundown on Monday and ends at sundown next Tuesday.

Hate crime, no – really; it’s probably an act of solidarity for all those repressed by the Elders of this world.

A few years ago my daughter had to have an operation at a small private hospital in a suburb of Toronto. The surgery had to be scheduled on Yom Kippur. As I traveled to the hospital on the day of the surgery, I passed by two synagogues which were located within 5 minutes of the hospital. What shocked me was the visible police presence in this affluent garden community. A minimum of 2 police cars stationed at the driveways of each synagogue. At the time, I thought how sad that it has come to this in Canada of all places. Now I think, thank G-d.

The police would probably let the bombers go and ask them politely to be nice - in the short term, everyone is probably better off if the police don't catch them, at least Muslims won't get another demonstration of civilized people rolling over for them.
