I have not found any reports currently naming the IDF soldiers held hostage by Hezbollah. The only identifying comment I have found is from a Debkafile report suggesting that the two IDF soldiers kidnapped were Druze. (Pictures taken from the BBC site)
Israeli helicopters drop special forces over Beirut area midday Wednesday to prevent Hizballah kidnappers going to ground with Israeli hostages in Shiite district. Arabiya TV claims the two kidnapped soldiers are Druzes. Israel reports 6 soldiers injured, 3 critically, and 11 civilians wounded. Israeli reinforcements are streaming north. The Israeli force is running into roadside bombs and heavy anti-tank rocket and missile fire in the chase for the Hizballah kidnappers who snatched two soldiers early Wednesday, 12 July. Israel warplanes are striking bridges and Hizballah command posts. Naval ships are bombing Hizballah coastal positions.
So much for the claims that Israel is the Apartheid State.
But the chilling implications are at the conclusion of this report:
There is a strong parallel between the Hizballah kidnap operation and the Hamas attack and abduction of Gilead Shalit on June 25. The result is that Israeli is now fighting on two fronts and forced to stage incursions into two territories evacuated by its troops and used as terrorist strongholds. The Lebanese front differs from the Hamas front in Gaza in that Hizballah has arrayed its 12,000 rockets and missiles on the ready. Within their range are Israel’s northern cities from Nahariya to Haifa and Hadera in central Israel. Should the war situation escalate, Syrian military and air intervention cannot be ruled out.
One needs to ask if a Likud coalition had carried the election - would Israel’s enemies be sensing this is the time to push forward with offensives against the Israeli state? Admittedly, the prime minister might have been a bit of a preener but he wouldn’t have been this big of a putz. And do you really think that a dove among doves would have been given the portfolio as Minister of Defense for the Israeli state? Really Kadima’s new party motto should be Forward into Abyss.
Oh yeah, Olmert declares Hezbhollah offensive an act of war - now.
