My oldest son is motivated by food, boxing and motorcycles. He has a passion for kosher meat and matzah. To date he still grapples with the concept of the Trinity and cannot quite fathom why a creator would want to make the word made flesh and often thinks of communion as a form of cannibalism. He definitely believes in a Creator but just hasn’t gotten a handle on either the Catholicism or the whole saving the world from sin through crucifixion. At one Passover Sedar he announced that he thought it made much more sense to convert to Judaism from Catholicism. My friend and I tried to explain that conversion for him would mean that he would have to be circumcised, and then had to promptly explain what circumcision meant. He thought for a moment and asked if he’d have to do it every Sabbath and when we responded just once he broke out into a smile and said that it was a small price to pay, count him in and bring on the knife. He has career aspirations of becoming a soldier so I hesitate to link to this Ynet Online article as the son often reads this blog and it might just be the tipping point to not only conversion but a change of citizenship as well.
