Bush Busters! Who you gonna call??!!!

Just watched a CNN report on the "Canadian" perspective on US President George W. Bush and what kind of reception the US President can expect on his arrival in Canada. The CNN piece brings up the idiocy of indicting George W. Bush for war crimes. The piece explains the strife is the result of the Iraqi war. Here's a thought for the lefties - arrest George W. Bush and what do you think Dick Cheney, (who then becomes the acting president) would do while Bush sits in the hoosegow? How quick can you cry "Uncle"?

I would love to see them try, except that I think that someone would get hurt.

(I agree with Bob Tarantino's take: "presumably the only question which would arise would be whether it would be a special forces operation or just your normal land war across the border..." Or the Diplomad's.)

But, you know, we're not serious. What we would do is drop a summons on President Bush, expecting him to show up in court, and then write a strongly worded letter of protest when he ignored it.

And that's if we went forward. But we are sensible enough to see the merits of doing nothing in this case, I think, and all such charges have to be signed off on by one of the high-ups -- Irwin Cotler as Minister of Justice, I think?

I would suspect that any charges laid under the War Crimes Act would be indictable offences; and therefore, you could not just be served with a summons and sign a promise to appear.

The unfortunate part is that we doom ourselves to irrelevancy with stunts like these and then wonder why in all our smugness that our neigbors have no desire to understand or take our opinions seriously.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I read somewhere that the law does not apply to sitting heads of state. If W. ever comes back as a private citizen though....

I stand corrected. Bush is still immune, but only because he is on official business. Apparently, if he was here to fish, he would be fair game.
