Al-Jazeera

Al- Jazeera will soon be Al-Jeering across Canadian airwaves some time in the near future.  The CRTC approved Al-Jazeera for broadcasting into Canadian homes today.

CRTC Commission chairman, Charles Daifen says:

Al-Jazeera had met the test of being a credible news service, and the commission had a legal duty not to infringe freedom of expression
CHOI-FM had their license revoked because of vulgar, offensive, comments.

The Last Amazon’s position is that the state has no place in limiting the free expression of their citizens as they go about their daily lives unless that freedom of expression impinges on another citizen’s security of person or property. The Last Amazon also recognizes that in a free society there are exceptional times when the state has a right to curtail or even suspend freedom of expression for a finite period of time.  For example, when the state is at war and her citizens are under siege.

Remember what Jean Augustine said, "The government will not tolerate statements that create dissonance in our society and disrespect for others."

Will Al-Jazeera be responsible for living up to the Gender Policy of the CRTC?

The Last Amazon wonders once Al-Jazeera starts broadcasting; how many more Star of David’s and “Kill the Jew’s” will be carved in her door?  Does anyone know how many “Kill the Jews” one has to have before its called incitement to create dissonance or disrespect for others?
