Sixty One years and still counting

Independence Day is being celebrated in Israel. A great many have said much concerning today far better than I. Furthermore, it is not by accident that the Israeli memorial day for her fallen occurs immediately before the celebration of the founding of the modern state of Israel.

The UN might have held a vote on the Palestine Mandate but it took the blood, sweat and tears of the Jews to make the modern state of Israel a reality. And if there is one thing I would like to convey to my readers about the modern state it is this – the founding of the modern state wasn’t so much about the creation of a new state but the gathering and homecoming of exiles.

Long may the Land of Israel prosper.
