The Vatican and the Arab League have agreed to work together to promote peace and justice in the world, the Vatican said Friday, after a meeting between Pope Benedict XVI and the league's secretary-general. In a separate meeting, Amr Moussa and the Vatican's foreign minister, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, signed a memorandum of understanding between both sides, a Vatican statement said.
And the travel itinerary for the Pope’s coming Mid-east tour gets curious and curiouser. Ynet News:
The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem said Sunday that Pope Benedict XVI, who is scheduled to visit Israel soon, will tour and preach at "the al-Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem, which symbolizes the right of return and holds a message of peace, brotherhood, and justice".
Well, well. Holding a mass in a refugee camp in Bethlehem, whereby most of the Christian population has been run out courtesy of the Palestinian Authority and local municipal governance is provided by Hamas’ men, is just too damn special for words. In a way I am not surprised since the Vatican refused to recognize Israel until December 30, 1993. So what’s next for the “Holy See’? How about a papal bull which will instruct Christians to pray towards Mecca…for the sake of inter-faith harmony.
