I found joy left the room when I opened Verne.....but thanks for the kind words of solace, but look who you pulled! The first Sci Fi book I ever read was A stranger in a strange land. I loved book. I still love that book. I would have even been content with Herbert - the father, not the son.

Michael, never heard of farmer either. Zelazny - the prince of chaos. Yep, read him too.
ReplyDeleteThe Amber series was fun to read, but it wasn't Zelazny's best work... Go for his short stories.
ReplyDeleteI recommend the collections Last Defender of Camelot, Unicorn Variations, and Four for Tomorrow. Better check the used book stores, though, because I think they are out of print.
The novel Lord of Light was very good, too.
